Authoritarian

This parenting style is characterized by high expectations and strict control. If you are an authoritarian parent, you will most likely be very demanding and expect your child to follow your rules without question. This can take a toll on the child’s mental health and well-being as they grow up to resent their parents for being so overbearing.

Authoritative

Parenting

Authoritative parenting is one of the most popular styles of parenting. It's also been the most researched and studied. This style of parenting is a mix between permissive and authoritarian parenting. The authoritative parent sets guidelines, rules, and boundaries for their children and they expect them to follow those rules. They are not as strict as an authoritarian parent, but they're not as lenient as a permissive parent either.

An authoritative parent is fair but firm with their children. They use punishment when necessary but it's not their go-to method for discipline.

Permissive

Parents

If you're a permissive parent, you've probably realized that your child is not as motivated as others are. You want them to be happy and enjoy themselves but it seems like they are unmotivated to do anything. This is because permissive parents don't set strict rules for their kids or hold them accountable for their behavior. The problem with this type of parenting style is that the kids aren't being given any boundaries and they have no consequences for their actions. As a result, they end up feeling unhappy with their lives and can become rebellious in order to get what they want.

Neglectful

Parenting

Neglectful parenting often happens when parents are struggling with their own mental health, drug addiction, or financial problems. Neglectful parenting is characterized by the lack of attention to the child’s needs and problems. This type of parenting style is often the result of a more severe form of neglect, such as physical abuse or emotional neglect. Neglectful parents often have difficulty forming a bond with their children and don't provide their children with the nurturing they need.

Uninvolved Parenting

An uninvolved parenting style is one in which the parents are not actively involved in their child's life. They might do things like provide food and shelter but they don't go out of their way to spend time with their children or teach them valuable lessons. In this type of parenting, the whole household revolves around the child. They make all of the decisions and are never corrected. This can often lead to children who lack self-confidence, have trouble making and keeping friends, and have a tough time as adults.
